Non-Invasive Treatments For Endometriosis – Episode 56

#56 – Non-Invasive Treatments For Endometriosis ** December 24, 2014
Guests // Leslie Wakefield, DPT, Erin Luyendyk, RHN, and Philippa Bridge-Cook, PhD ** Host // Chandler Marrs, PhD

endo-pelvic-pain3-cropYou have endometriosis, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts and/or fibroids. Your menstrual periods are hellish, bowel movements are disrupted, bladder functions are awry, and forget about sex. You have suffered through years of pain, have tried countless prescription meds, and likely have had many surgeries, some more successful than others.

For many girls and women without access to specialists, the excruciating pain will continue.  Most can’t get a diagnosis let alone appropriate treatment, but we can address this with education and awareness. The more you know about these women’s health issues, the more likely you will be able to find help for yourself and for your daughters, should they develop these conditions.

In part two of our multipart series on endometriosis, menstrual and pelvic pain syndromes, we’ll be talking about exciting and effective non-invasive options for managing abdominal and pelvic pain syndromes: women’s health physical therapy and anti-inflammatory diets.

Women’s health physical therapy is an emerging, specialized treatment modality to heal inflammatory conditions that affect the abdominal and pelvic regions. Adhesions and fascial restrictions that developed as result of the chronic inflammation and/or surgeries can be softened or released, so the pressure they place on surrounding areas is relieved,  pain is reduced, function is restored, and quality of life improves. Find out if this form of physical therapy might help you or loved ones live pain-free?

Did you know that certain foods can trigger inflammation and exacerbate pain while other foods reduce inflammation? Did you know there are diets specifically designed to help manage endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), PMS, and other common conditions?

Join host Chandler Marrs for a conversation about women’s health and healing with three incredible women:

Leslie-WakefieldLeslie Wakefield, DPT, CSCS is a doctor of physical therapy specializing in Women’s Health and Pelvic Rehabilitation. She is the owner of Wellsprings Health, a holistic therapy clinic in Hollywood, Florida, and Director of the Miami Clear Passage clinic. Leslie writes about women’s health physical therapy for Hormones Matter.

Erin-endoErin Luyendyk, RHN is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Nutrition Educator, Raw Chef, and founder of Nutritionista, inspiring women around the globe to nourish themselves healthy. As an endometriosis sufferer herself, she has both expertise and a special passion for using integrative nutrition to help manage endometriosis, PCOS, and PMS. Erin consults with private nutrition clients and health professionals internationally.

Philippa-Bridge-Cook-150x150Philippa Bridge-Cook, PhD is a scientist working in molecular diagnostics and trained in medical genetics and microbiology. She is an endometriosis survivor, advocate, and regular contributor to Hormones Matter. Phillippa is a board member of The Endometriosis Network Canada, a non-profit organization that promotes a patient-centered approach to managing endometriosis to increase the quality of life for those living with it.

Chandler-Marrs-HeadshotChandler Marrs, PhD, is proud mom of 20 year-old twins, a research scientist, an entrepreneur, a lifelong jock, and a fierce women’s health advocate. She has spent the last 15 years in women’s health research, first in perinatal mental health and hormones, and more recently in medication-induced mitochondrial dysfunction. Dissatisfied with the state of health and hormone research, she created Hormones Matter, an online journal featuring research reviews, commentary, and patient stories across a range of health topics. Concerned with the lack of medication testing in women and children, she conducts online, direct-to-patient, real world medication safety and efficacy studies through her company, Lucine Health Sciences. Her most recent endeavor is the online social health site, Heal with Friends, focused on finding healing solutions for complex and chronic diseases and medication and vaccine reactions.
