From The Health Bridge:
The topic of vaccines is one that garnered a big reaction from our audience when The Health Bridge covered the measles outbreak at Disneyland. The response was so strong that Pedram Shojai and Sara Gottfried wanted to continue the conversation. Unfortunately, Sara fell sick right before this recording, so Pedram runs this one solo as he welcomed guests Jeff Hays and Louise Habakus.
Jeff Hays is a filmmaker whose upcoming film, “BOUGHT,” deals with the topic of vaccine manufacturers and their practices.
Louise Habakus appears in the film and is the founding director of Center for Personal Rights and lead radio host of Fearless Parent Radio.
A lot of the responses we received conveyed opinion that Sara and Pedram were lacking information outside of CDC research. Jeff and Louise were invited to try to educate the hosts more on what you, the listeners, felt was lacking in the previous episode.
What is most important to consider is that we must all be open to all the information is out there. Vaccination is a complicated topic that extends beyond just the aspect of public safety.
Jeff and Louise discuss the various aspects that should weigh in a parent’s decision.

The 103 deaths following MMR vaccines is only those reported. Depending on who you ask, it probably represents anywhere from 1%-10% of actual deaths. When everything that happens after a vaccine is a “coincidence,” you’re not going to get many reports of adverse reactions. Terrifying. I can’t tell you how many kids I know who have “changed” permanently within days after their vaccines (MMR and otherwise) – but not a single solitary doctor who will admit even the POSSIBILITY of causal connection – in spite of the package insert possible side effects and the law compelling drs/health care practitioners to report any possible (POSSIBLE!) (let alone obvious) adverse reactions. WHY ISN’T THAT SEEN FOR THE MEDICAL MALPRACTICE THAT IT IS!?!??!?!
I loved hearing Louise Kuo Habakus on this program and watching the movie “Bought” as it articulate many of the thoughts I have had since my wife and I decided not to vaccinate our daughters, starting in early 1995.
I am an accountant working in the financial world and so resonate with what she said about the financial aspect of this matter. One of the things I observe in watching the stories of these families is that the vaccine injury is bringing out their humanity; maybe these injuries as asking us to stretch ourselves?
Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf schools amoung many other initiatives, spoke to the issue of what the cosmos is asking of us – that we accept the spiritual nature of the world, that we see and empathise with the suffering of others. He uses the language of angels (it may sound flaky, but he speaks about it in a very specific way, as a hierarchy) – and he says that the angels want us in a conscious way to wake up to these realities; that if we don’t we will experience this in an unconscious way.
This can be seen in history – in his criticism of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. John Maynard Keynes wrote that the path to peace in Europe was through economic cooperation – free trade and cross guarantee of debt). This view was rejected until after the next war – after much more suffering – when the French and Germans started working together with the enlightened help of the US through the Marshall Plan. Prior to the sexual revolution, homosexuals were judged – even criminalized. One could say that one of the outcomes of the AIDS crisis is a much greater acceptance of homosexuality – and we see this played out in the brilliant play “Angels in America.”
So what in that light are these stories and experiences of vaccine injuries, in the suffering of families, is trying to awaken in us? What are the gifts those with autism are bringing us? Something of the nature of love? Of the bankruptcy of the materialism of our civilization. Louise’s comments and the movie point to the nature of industry and the economy. What I observe is the industrialization and mechanization of childhood – the vaccine schedules flow into the standardized testing in schools are preparing our children for a life as a cog, where those who do well on tests will do better, will succeed in a material way. It is all so efficient and practical.
Vaccine injuries are pointing to the limits and futility of our understanding of “practical.” What Steiner and others such as Gandhi would say that what is truly practical is embracing the notion that we are connected to one another, that our spiritual task is to care about the other, care for the other which includes understanding the other, having compassion and importantly empathy (not sympathy or antipathy) for the other. This is something Louise touched on in her comments about the doctors.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and good luck with your work.
