“The Fearless Parent”
at the Autism One Conference on May 22, 2015
In an era of rising chronic, autoimmune, and neurodevelopmental disorders, it’s time for new paradigms in medicine, lifestyle, and parenting.
Our message is an appeal to parents, practitioners, and activists to embrace a new model for health and healing.
We will offer cutting edge perspectives on the topics that vex parents most, including food and special diets, vaccination, allergies and autoimmunity, and gut health.
The medical system is paternalistic and fear is its currency. The way forward is to walk past the gatekeepers. Defy convention. Dare to hope. Trust your heart. Use your head. Find your tribe. Be fearless.
The AutismOne / Focus Autism 2015 Conference will be held May 20-24, 2015 at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont, IL. Conference registration is open, with a special pre-holiday rate of $39 through New Year’s Eve, at AutismOne.org.
See you in Chicago!
I wish fear would stop being villainized. What do you do when you feel fear? Tell fear that it is bad and tell it to go away? I am tired of fear being denied. We all need to stay with our fear, feel it, accept it and allow it to transmute because we are telling it that it is okay. Fear has a lot to teach us and can be lovingly transformed – and give us important information which can lead to important action – but everyone has it all wrong about fear. So stupid!
That Addair quote pisses me off. How do you get to the other side of fear with his plan? Sweep it under the rug, avoid it like Ebola and make it feel wrong.
Humans are not going to get much further if they don’t start accepting what their emotions bodies present to them and start dealing with these feelings and emotions with love and acceptance. We will stay primitive until we do.
Hi, Lisa. Fear isn’t being villainized! It’s what we do with the fear that has the most to teach us. It’s neither possible nor desirable to eradicate fear. It’s absolutely the wise attunement and loving transformation that we’re seeking.
Alison MacNeil and I did a radio show on The Gift of Fear. It’s based on Gavin de Becker’s landmark book by the same title. We discuss the many ways that fear serves us and how incredibly undervalued it is.
As for Addair’s quote, we think it’s brilliant. We understand him to mean that you get to the other side of fear by looking at it squarely in the eye and walking through the fire… with all that you describe: stay with it, breathe through it, feel it, understand it, accept it… step by step, all the way through.
We’ve chosen to focus on the positive expression of these insights through the word Fearless. It struck us as more accessible than Parenting with Fear 😉
What if we saw fear as a kind of being in our soul, along with doubt and hatred, or mocking? For me that perspective suggests that it – fear – is always there, just as our tendency to mock others is, so we pay attention to it, perhaps at times to heed it, but not to allow it to dominate, or run our life. It is a challenging topic, so I can resonate with the feeling that it can’t be washed away with a great quote.
Greetings,
I was wondering if you have any vending or exhibits i could do. If so, what is the process and the cost. Can you let me know as soon as you can by calling me at 240-241-3412.
Hi, Nikki. I’ve passed along your request. Thank you for your interest in supporting our message and the Autism One conference.
